In college my school had a camera loaner program for students. The demand was high, so we could only borrow the cameras for a couple of days. My favorite to borrow was the Mamiya C330. I just fell in love with the square format. Holding this heavy metal camera with moving parts and looking down into the focusing screen was an experience. I really felt like I was doing something special when I pressed the shutter…very similar feeling with the Pentax 6×7. But I was a struggling film photography student on a super tight budget, and I definitely couldn’t afford a Pentax or a C330.
I told this story to Dave years ago, and he held it in his heart. On Valentine’s Day he surprised me with a very heavy handbag. I thought, “Yes! Tons of candy!” Nope. Guess what was inside, guys?? Mamiya C330. This guy. What am I going to do with him? If he wasn’t married, I would totally marry him.
The images below are from my test roll. Enjoy.
My muse, isn’t he beautiful?
