A couple of months ago Dave’s mom sent me a groupon ad in an instant message. “Can you do a photo of the girls like this?” The ad was a portrait of two little girls in matching dresses on a white background with their arms slung around each other. I said, “Yes, of course.” I decided if this portrait was accomplished it would be an awesome birthday present. The set up is easy, studio photography 101…right? And photographing family is easy, right? And “the girls” Katelyn and Lauren, our nieces….easy, right? Ha. Ha.
Lauren is three, going through a phase where a camera can cause an impromptu game of hide and seek or a complete meltdown. So, I set up the lights and background in our driveway. I asked Katelyn, five, to sit down on the background and tested the lights. Katelyn was a delight and sat beautifully for like 30 minutes, while we attempted to bribe Lauren to sit beside her. A Katy Perry necklace was involved, but in the end wasn’t worth sitting for a picture. Lauren would only sit if she could hold her mom’s hand.
So, that’s what happened. She held her mom’s hand. I removed mom’s hand in post production. Yay…Photoshop! Here’s the final image:
Birthday present accomplished. I hope Momma Scelfo is happy. Katelyn looks so grown up. I just can’t get over it. And Lauren is smiling. Aren’t they just the sweetest, most adorable little girls you’ve ever seen? You don’t have to agree with me, but I think you should 🙂
Dave always says, “Anything worth doing isn’t going to be easy.” So true and totally fine with me.
