A safe but sometimes chilly way of recalling the past is to force open a crammed drawer. If you are searching for anything in particular you don’t find it, but something falls out at the back that is often more interesting. -James Matthew Barrie
We are collectors, so when Dave and I aren’t shooting we spend our weekends on adventures searching for buried treasure at estate sales. A couple of our very close friends run an estate sale company, and we got hooked by visiting them at their sales. An estate sale is so different than a yard sale or flea market. Estate sales are inside the home and most of the personal belongings are exactly where the owner left them. I love getting to peek inside a stranger’s life…what do they take pictures of, what hangs on their walls, what do they collect, where they place precious objects, what items do they hold onto for years without even taking about of the box. I don’t know which is more exciting the thrill of the hunt, the prospect of a really good deal, or just the shear spontaneity of it all. So, I’ve decided to share some of our recent finds with you and our one reader…hey Rita, we love you!
1. Glass dome without a base // 2. Vintage Wild West City Pennant // 3. An engineer’s personalized ruler // 4. Atlas with a broken spine
These items were found in a house with an Asian relics room, and house with a collection of small empty boxes from defunct department stores.
Have you ever been to an estate sale? What is one of your favorite finds?
Happy Hunting!
